Build more than just your career

At Avison Young, people are at the heart of what we do. We have a rich heritage that we’re extremely proud of, but we’re equally as excited about our vision for the future of the UK business.

Avison Young has a culture of nurturing talent. Not only will you gain support as you develop your experience, but also the potential to grow and succeed in your future career.

Real opportunities, real responsibility

As a graduate / assistant surveyor, we believe that you have what it takes to shape the future of the property industry. This means that you will be given real challenges and responsibility, right from the get-go. During your training you will develop much more than just the technical skills needed to thrive in your field. You will develop leadership qualities which will help you fast track your career.

What you’ll be doing

As a commercial surveying graduate / assistant surveyor, you’ll join us on a journey to become a professionally qualified surveyor through membership to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

We will consider candidates with a non-cognitive background. All relevant experience will be noted and a suitable plan for each candidate will be devised on an individual basis.

You will be based in our Manchester office and join our thriving Business Rates team.

The business rates team nationally is market leading and one of the largest in the UK. We work alongside clients to develop bespoke strategies and solutions to mitigate business rate liability. Since 2010 Avison Young have assisted over 2,600 clients achieving a combined business rates savings in excess of £2.2bn.

The role will draw upon the main disciplines of surveying practice including supervised inspection, measurement, and valuation, acting for a range of both public and private sector occupiers. You will be involved in the process of advising clients as well as engagement with the ‘check, challenge and appeal’ (CCA) system, where appropriate.

As a graduate / assistant surveyor within the Business Rates team you will initially be expected to provide support to senior members of the team. Excellent research, analytical and report writing skills will be required.

You will have responsibility for work tasks from the commencement of your employment with us and receive training on various property information systems and databases including our own bespoke Rating system.

Your role will allow you to build relationships with colleagues from across the business and engage with clients to ensure we continue to provide the service our clients are accustomed to and expect as one of the UK’s leading commercial property advisors.

As well as the opportunity to develop business skills, technical knowledge and professional development through on-going training, you will be allocated a dedicated Supervisor and Counsellor to assist you during your APC training (where appropriate) as well as tailored support from our APC training provider.

Who are we looking for?

We value candidates who aren’t afraid to step up and challenge the status quo. With that in mind, we’re looking for:

  • A professional, conscious and hard-working mentality.
  • A team player, and particularly someone who will thrive working within a dynamic team environment.
  • An ability and confidence to challenge both themselves and their work surroundings for the better.
  • A strong drive for results, with a focus on the wider implications of their actions.
  • The desire to be dynamic, adapt, and to demonstrate agility in the work environment.
  • A passion for building strong relationships with clients and colleagues alike.
  • An ability to look ahead, and to understand the commercial landscape.
  • A talent for inspiring and energising those around you.

If you believe that you would be a great fit for our graduate programme, we would love for you to apply. For more information, feel free to contact us at futuretalent.team.uk@avisonyoung.com
